Shop Fruit FliesHow to Size and Feed Feeder Insects
Match the feeder to the pet, not the other way around. A good rule of thumb across most species is a feeder sized to roughly a quarter of your pet's leg span, matched to the width of the carapace (head). Go too big and an oversized feeder can stress or injure a smaller animal instead of getting eaten; go too small and you're just feeding more often for the same result.
Hold off on feeding any time your pet is in premolt or actively molting. An animal that's about to shed usually stops eating on its own, and an uneaten feeder left in the enclosure during a molt is one of the more common ways a molting pet gets hurt. Pull anything uneaten after a day or two either way.
Gut-load crickets and roaches with a real food source for a day before offering them, it's the easiest way to pass along extra nutrition to your pet. Mealworms and superworms keep for weeks in the right conditions, mealworms in the fridge, superworms at room temperature since the cold will actually harm them. Feeding needs vary by species and life stage, so if you want the specifics for what you're keeping, our care sheets break it down animal by animal.
Why Our Feeders?
Feeder quality is animal welfare, not an afterthought. What your feeders were raised on is what they pass along to your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Feeder Insects
Do email subscribers get a discount on feeders?
Yes. Subscribing to our free email list gets you a flat 5% off every feeder order, the same rate supplies get. It doesn't climb with VIP tier the way our invertebrate discount does, GOLD and PLATINUM members still get 5% on feeders. There's no code to enter, it applies itself at checkout for as long as you stay subscribed. Full details are on our VIP and rewards program page.
What happens if my feeders don't survive the trip?
Every feeder order is backed by a 24 Hour Live Arrival Guarantee. If they arrive and aren't doing well, message us within 24 hours of delivery and we'll send another order out at no cost.
Why do my feeders ship separately from my animal order?
Feeders are packed and shipped by feeder insect experts through a dedicated feeder operation, not shipped alongside your live animal order. They travel in their own box and can land on a different day than the rest of your order. Shipping starts as low as $7.
Do feeder orders count toward free shipping or freebie credit?
No. Feeder shipping runs on its own rate starting at $7, separate from the $300 threshold that unlocks free facility pickup on pet invertebrate orders, and feeder purchases don't build freebie credit either.
What size feeder should I buy for my pet?
Size feeders to roughly a quarter of your pet's leg span, matched to the width of the carapace (head). That guideline holds across most species we carry. When you're between two sizes, sizing down is the safer call.
How do I store mealworms and superworms before feeding them out?
Mealworms hold for weeks in the fridge. Superworms are the opposite, keep them at room temperature, refrigeration will actually harm them.
Should I gut-load crickets and roaches before feeding them out?
Yes. Gut-load them with a real food source for about a day before offering them to your pet, it's the easiest way to pass along extra nutrition.
