Ybyrapora diversipes (Amazon Sapphire Pink-Toe Tarantula)

The Amazon Sapphire Pink-Toe is such a fun species to grow out. It starts as an emerald jewel green sling, develops gorgeous blue, red, and green striping as a juvenile, and matures into a stunning tarantula with bright blue and red legs, a golden carapace (head), and chevron patterning. This new world tarantula for sale flies off the shelf every time it's available, and it's easy to see why.

Why do hobbyists keep Ybyrapora diversipes?

  • Stunning Coloration: Bright blue and red legs, a golden carapace, and chevron patterning make this one of the most colorful arboreals in the hobby.
  • Drastic Color Change: An emerald green sling transforms into a striped juvenile before settling into the vivid blue, red, and gold adult look.
  • Arboreal Heavy Webber: Builds elaborate silk retreats throughout its enclosure.
  • Rare in the Hobby: A genuinely sought-after tree spider that rarely stays in stock for long.

How should Ybyrapora diversipes be kept?

  • Adult Size: Reaches about 4 to 4.5 inches at full leg span.
  • Enclosure: Choose an enclosure at least twice the leg span in width, depth, and height, with cork bark or branches for climbing and webbing anchor points.
  • Temperature: Keep between 65 to 75 degrees F.
  • Humidity: Keep the substrate damp but not saturated, resembling the texture and color of coffee grounds. Organic coconut fiber works well since it resists mold and holds humidity steadily.
  • Water: Provide a shallow water dish placed in an elevated position if possible. This is more natural for arboreal species and helps prevent crickets from falling in and drowning.
  • Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week.
  • Temperament: Defensive when threatened, and capable of ejecting fecal matter as a unique defense mechanism, so this is a species best appreciated from a comfortable distance rather than handled.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Sling Coloration: Starts as an emerald jewel green sling, develops blue, red, and green juvenile striping, and finishes as a vivid blue, red, and gold adult.
  • Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
