The Costa Rican Orange Mouth, or Psalmopoeus reduncus, is a New World arboreal tarantula from Costa Rica. Adults have a copper metallic coloration across the body, colorful throughout its life. Even from spiderlings the species is colorful, building into that full copper metallic adult look as it grows. This species only grows to about 5 to 6 inches in diagonal leg span, with a fast growth rate, one of the fastest growing genera in the hobby. Females live about 10 years while males typically live only 2 to 3. • Adult Size: This species hatches out around 0.5 to 0.75 inch and reaches an adult max of about 5 to 6 inches in diagonal leg span, so every enclosure we recommend is sized for where it's headed, not just where it is today.
• Enclosure: Sizing depends on which size you choose below, from a cage around 4x4x6 inches for a spiderling up to a cage around 12x12x18 inches for a full grown adult. Each size page has the exact setup for the animal in front of you.
• Setup Tips: Real cork bark or a piece of wood makes a real difference for this species. It gives it a natural surface to build its silk tube retreat against and settle into right away.
• Rehousing: Expect three enclosures over this species' life, a cage around 4x4x6 inches, a cage around 8x8x12 inches, and a final cage around 12x12x18 inches, with each move usually coming within about 6 to 8 months at this fast growth rate.
• Temperature: 75 to 80°F, the optimal range for this tropical arboreal species. Cooler temperatures are survivable, but increase the odds of trouble molting and growing, so we recommend staying in this range. Most keepers do not need any extra heating to hit it.
• Humidity: Moderate humidity, 65 to 75%, is right for this species. Good ventilation matters just as much as the number. Cross ventilation works best, but ample top ventilation can work too, as long as the enclosure isn't over misted.
• Water: Provide a shallow water dish, placed in an elevated position if possible. A weekly misting is a good idea too, so it can drink off the enclosure's surfaces or its own webbing if it prefers that to the dish, as long as you're wetting surfaces rather than soaking the substrate.
• Diet: We recommend prey size from 1/8 inch up to a 1 inch cricket or roach, roughly the size of this animal's carapace (head), depending on the size you choose, offered at least once a week.
• Temperament: Fast, alert and quick to defend itself if it feels threatened, which makes for a confident, responsive display animal once it's settled in. Best suited to a keeper who already has some experience with faster arboreals.

• Native Range: This species is native to the rainforests of Costa Rica, part of the lower trunk tube dwelling branch of the Psalmopoeus genus.
• Not the Panama Blonde: You may see this species' keyword grouping overlap with its cousin Psalmopoeus pulcher. The true Panama Blonde is P. pulcher. This is the Costa Rican Orange Mouth, named for the orange on its chelicerae.
