Description

Poecilotheria miranda (Bengal Spotted Ornamental Tarantula)

Poecilotheria miranda features large white and smaller black bands on the legs, with purple femurs and carapace (head), and that iconic "arrowhead" pattern indicative of ornamental, or "Pokie," tarantulas. Even the anatomy is highly unique, with an elongated body, oversized toe pads, and intricate patterns that let it hide in plain sight against tree bark high in the canopy. Grab this old world tarantula for sale if you want one of the most visually distinct Pokies in the hobby.

Why do hobbyists keep Poecilotheria miranda?

  • Stunning Coloration: Large white and smaller black leg bands paired with purple femurs and carapace, plus the classic arrowhead abdominal pattern.
  • Large Size: A substantial arboreal species with real presence once fully grown.
  • Great Display Species: Its elongated body and oversized toe pads make for a genuinely unique looking display animal.

How should Poecilotheria miranda be kept?

  • Adult Size: Reaches roughly 7 to 8 inches at full leg span.
  • Enclosure: Provide a tall arboreal setup at least 3 times the leg span in height and 2 times the leg span in width and depth, with vertical cork bark reaching near the top.
  • Temperature: Keep between 75 to 82 degrees F.
  • Humidity: 65-75%, with good ventilation to prevent stagnant air.
  • Water: Provide a shallow water dish placed in an elevated position if possible. This is more natural for arboreal species and helps prevent crickets from falling in and drowning.
  • Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week.
  • Temperament: Fast and defensive, it carries a medically significant bite typical of old world species, so this is a display only animal. We do not encourage or recommend handling with any of our tarantulas, old world species especially.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Built to Blend In: The elongated body and intricate patterning let this species disappear against tree bark in the wild, a genuinely unique trait among tarantulas.
  • Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
