Leaf Chop
Leaf Chop — Coarse-Grade Leaf Mix for Substrate Layering & Isopod Feeding (Quart & Gallon)
Description:
Leaf chop is a very exciting product that, to our knowledge, is only available here at FrogDaddy! Leaf chop comes in 2 sizes: quart and gallon. A 1 gallon bag contains 10+ gallons of cleaned and heat-treated leaf litter.
Why keepers love Leaf Chop:
- FrogDaddy exclusive — Only available here at FrogDaddy
- Coarse-grade leaf powder — A coarse-grade form of leaf powder for easy breakdown
- Multi-leaf blend — Infused with 3–4 types of leaves (both hard cuticle and soft cuticle)
- Microfauna boost — Includes a small amount of food product enjoyed by both isopods and springtails
- Dual purpose — Works as a substrate layer AND as a supplemental feeder item for isopods
- Easy breakdown — Much easier to consume and break down for nutrient cycling than whole leaves
- Bulk value — 1 gallon bag contains 10+ gallons of cleaned and heat-treated leaf litter
Available sizes:
- Quart — Easily fills an 18x18 vivarium if spread thinly and uniformly
- Gallon — Easily fills a 24x24 vivarium
Use as a substrate layer in a vivarium:
- Use appropriately via the layering list below
- Leaf chop provides an incredible boost to microfauna populations and allows for quick nutrient cycling
- Replenish under the leaf litter as necessary
FrogDaddy recommended vivarium layering (bottom to top):
- Drainage layer — Hydroballs, featherlite, or PVC
- Substrate Barrier — Vinyl window screen to separate drainage from substrate
- FaunaReady Bioactive / ABG mix — Main substrate layer
- Leaf powder — Leaf chop layer
- Rapid-breakdown (thin cuticle) leaf litter — Maples or oaks
- Gradual-breakdown (thick cuticle) leaf litter — Magnolia / sea grape
Use as a food product:
- Lightly mist (if applicable) the leaf powder after spreading a thin layer across the isopod's enclosure
- Do this once a month, or as necessary
- Leaf chop is much easier to consume and break down for nutrient cycling
Best for: dart frog vivariums, tarantula enclosures, isopod cultures, tropical bioactive setups, and any build needing a microfauna boost.
