Hydroton (Hydroballs - Drainage Layer / Hydroponic Material)
Hydroton (Hydroballs) — Expanded Clay Drainage Layer for Vivariums & Hydroponic Setups
Description:
Our drainage layer of choice. Hydroton are expanded clay balls that absorb and release water evenly, promote high levels of aerobic bacteria growth (the good stuff!), and provide an excellent negative space to trap water in the drainage layer. This is the same material many hydroponic shops use for growing plants.
Why builders love Hydroton:
- Even water absorption & release — Expanded clay balls regulate moisture throughout the drainage layer
- Aerobic bacteria growth — High surface area promotes beneficial bacteria that keep the system healthy
- Negative space — Excellent structure for trapping water without waterlogging the substrate
- Hydroponic-grade material — Same trusted material used by hydroponic growers
- Reusable — Rinse and reuse for ongoing builds
