GeoForm Clay - Sticky Soil Terrarium Putty
GeoForm Clay — Sticky Soil Terrarium Putty for Moss Walls, Backgrounds & Naturalistic Builds
Description:
GeoForm Clay is a dry clay that mixes with water to create a tacky, biologically friendly mounting substrate designed for moss walls, root zones, cork backgrounds, and naturalistic terrarium detailing. Its soft mud-like texture adheres easily to cork bark, wood, rock, foam, and other objects while helping moss spores, fragments, and small plant roots remain in place during establishment.
Unlike rigid sculpting clays, GeoForm Clay stays slightly re-wettable and moisture retentive — making it ideal for moss propagation, nano terrariums, lightweight living walls, and organic hardscape accents.
Why builders love GeoForm Clay:
- Tacky, moldable texture — Adheres to cork, wood, rock, foam, and other surfaces to hold moss and plant roots in place
- Re-wettable & moisture-retentive — Stays slightly active instead of going rigid, supporting moss establishment
- Pairs with the Bryo-series — Works seamlessly with BryoSpore, BryoBrick (dehydrated), ShroomRoom MossMix, and Vivarium Vine Vault
- Plant-ready surface — Vines and epiphytic plants can root directly into the clay (avoid orchids and epiphytes needing heavy root airflow)
- Versatile applications — Moss walls, nano terrariums, cork bark detailing, root wraps, epiphyte mounting, lightweight living backgrounds, and naturalistic mud/shoreline textures
Bulk sizing note: 4lb and 8lb GeoForm Clay are equivalent to ShroomRoom 6.6lb and 13.2lb offerings — ShroomRoom is pre-hydrated, GeoForm is shipped dry.
Basic directions:
- Mix 3/4 cup water per 0.5lb bag, agitate, and remove wetted clay. For larger batches, mix to a slightly sticky, moldable putty texture
- Spread a thin layer onto cork, wood, rock, foam, or other clays. If pressing directly to glass, keep the layer under 0.5 inches without structural support. Keep humidity high and do not let the clay dry out
- Let dry for a few hours before applying BryoBase or MossBase (optional but helps adhesion). Apply BryoSpore, MossMix, dehydrated BryoBrick fragments, or other moss products directly onto the surface
- Mist lightly and maintain high humidity during establishment
Surface-specific tips:
Over foam (expanding foam backgrounds):
- Foam is hydrophobic, non-porous, and chemically inert — GeoForm relies on mechanical tooth, not chemical bond
- Rough the foam surface, carve texture, or coat with structural clays before applying
- Apply slightly thicker (2–3 mm), press into foam texture, do not overwater
- Allow 10–15 minutes set time before moss
- On bare smooth foam, GeoForm is temporary
Over wood (cork, hardwood, branches):
- Lightly mist wood first (do not soak) — wood wicks moisture unevenly
- Apply GeoForm thin (1 mm) and press firmly into grain or pores
- Allow 5–10 minutes partial set
- Excellent for cork bark, driftwood, and branch mounting
For steep verticals or wet moss slurries (like BryoBlend): Use BryoBond for additional grip.
Note: Not designed for direct use with BryoBlend (wet moss mix). Use dehydrated and full-dry products for best results.
