How should Cyriopagopus lividus be kept?

• Adult Size: Reaches about 6 inches at full leg span.
• Enclosure: This fossorial species needs a setup roughly 2 times the leg span in footprint, 3 times the leg span in height, with substrate about 2 times the leg span deep, roughly two thirds of the total enclosure height, for stable, deep burrows. At full adult size that works out to about 12 inches of footprint, 18 inches of height, and 12 inches of substrate.
• Temperature: 65-75°F.
• Humidity: Moderate to high. Keep the lower substrate layers slightly damp with the top allowed to dry a bit, never swampy.
• Water: A shallow textured water dish works well, something they can grip when climbing out.
• Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week.
• Temperament: Fast and defensive, it carries a medically significant bite typical of old world species, so this is a display only animal. We do not encourage or recommend handling with any of our tarantulas, old world species especially.
