Description
Cilantica devamatha (Polychromatic Earth Tiger Tarantula)
The Polychromatic Earth Tiger has had many names over the years, but none can deny its beauty. This Indian species goes through a real color journey, juveniles show a striking pink and blue coloration before gradually shifting into a nearly solid iridescent blue as adults, with blackish legs and, in mature males, a gold carapace (head). This is a tube dwelling old world tarantula for sale that rewards patient observation.
Why do hobbyists keep Cilantica devamatha?
- Stunning Coloration: Adults settle into a nearly solid iridescent blue with blackish legs, and mature males develop a striking gold carapace.
- Drastic Color Change: Juveniles show a beautiful pink and blue coloration that gradually shifts into the metallic blue adult look.
- Fast Grower: Grows at a solid pace for an old world fossorial species.
How should Cilantica devamatha be kept?
- Adult Size: Females reach about 5 to 5.5 inches at full leg span, with males running smaller at around 3 to 4 inches.
- Enclosure: This species is a tube dweller, so provide a fossorial setup roughly 2 times the leg span in footprint, 3 times the leg span in height, and enough substrate depth to support stable burrows.
- Temperature: 75-82°F, reflecting this species' warm Indian origin.
- Humidity: Moderate to high, in the 60 to 70 percent range. Keep the lower substrate damp while allowing the surface to dry a bit.
- Water: A shallow textured water dish works well, something they can grip when climbing out.
- Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week.
- Temperament: Fast and alert, quick to bite if disturbed. It carries a medically significant bite typical of old world species, so this is a display only animal. We do not encourage or recommend handling with any of our tarantulas, old world species especially.
Are there any additional notes or considerations?
- Misting Reveals Them: This species tends to stay in its tube, but a light misting often brings it out where it can actually be seen.
- Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
