General Facts
This small arboreal lizard species comes from the cooler cloud forests of Sri Lanka. It's an active species, though slower moving than many arboreal lizards, which makes it enjoyable to watch and interact with. Adults stay under 3 inches, and while it has specific cool-climate husbandry needs, it's fairly hardy compared to other cool-climate lizard species once that setup is dialed in.
Diet
We feed our pygmy lizards gut-loaded crickets with a supplement rotation of calcium without D3 and Arcadia EarthPro. Flies or mealworms can be rotated in as well. Babies do best on fruit flies or small crickets.
Cage Setup
Full bioactive enclosures with a drainage layer and vines or small plants for climbing. We start babies together in a 12x12x18 and move adults to an 18x18x24 for breeding. Daily misting plus hand misting keeps them properly hydrated, and leaf litter on the substrate helps prevent them from ingesting soil while feeding.
Lighting & Conditions
Cophotis dumbara is a cool-climate species and does best around 68 to 75°F ambient. We don't recommend heat elements or heat bulbs for this species. A 6% UVB bulb provides a gentle gradient for thermoregulation without pushing temperatures too high.
