Description

Davus sp. "Veracruz"

Mexican terrestrial with a high-contrast black and orange tiger-stripe pattern that's distinctly different from D. pentaloris, this species has the heavy-bodied, compact build and low stance that defines the Davus genus. Slings start out muted brown and tan, almost boring by comparison, and the contrast deepens with every molt until the full tiger-stripe look comes in. Grab this New World Tarantula for sale if you're looking to add one of the newest tiger-stripe Davus to hit the U.S. market.

Why do hobbyists keep Davus sp. "Veracruz"?

  • Striking Tiger-Stripe Pattern: high-contrast black and fiery orange, distinctly different from D. pentaloris, instantly recognizable
  • Heavy-Bodied Build: compact and stout with a low stance, classic Davus silhouette, fills the enclosure with presence
  • Heavy Webber: builds extensive webbing throughout the enclosure, especially around hides, fun to watch the webbing grow
  • Active, Visible Display: spends plenty of time out in the open once settled, great display species, not a hide-and-never-see-it tarantula
  • Calm but Skittish Temperament: generally docile and easy to work with, alert and responsive, moves quickly when startled
  • Strong Breeding Potential: fresh U.S. genetics make established pairs valuable, real opportunity for breeders working with newer Davus

How should Davus sp. "Veracruz" be kept?

  • Terrestrial Setup: low-profile enclosure with floor space prioritized over height, classic Davus footprint
  • Substrate and Hides: 3-4 inches of dry substrate topped with a low cork bark hide and leaf litter for webbing anchor points
  • Temperature: 65-75°F, room temperature works well in most homes, no extra heating required
  • Humidity: moderate, light misting on one side and a shallow water dish will keep the moisture gradient balanced
  • Diet: 1-2 appropriately sized insects per week, prey about the size of the carapace (head), small crickets and roaches are both perfect
  • Water: shallow water dish at all times, refresh regularly, supports both hydration and ambient humidity

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Juvenile to Adult Transformation: slings start muted brown and tan, contrast deepens with every molt, the adult coloration is worth the wait
  • Different from D. pentaloris: distinct tiger-stripe pattern, heavier-bodied build, and newer U.S. availability set it apart from its more common cousin

Listing Notes: unsexed slings and juveniles available; photo shows the developing tiger-stripe contrast that defines this species.
